It’s clear demand for the VCSE sector work has never been more needed, but understanding how best to meet those needs has never felt more challenging.
CAF published the Charity Resilience Index last month, and key findings include the following:
- 81% of charities say that demand for their services has increased compared to a year ago.
- Fewer than two-fifths (38%) of charities have high levels of confidence that they can afford to meet the current demand for their services.
- Only half (55%) of charities are confident they can meet their current overheads, including energy, rent and supplies.
- Seven in 10 (70%) charities now say that the rising cost of living is impacting the morale of their workforce.
- Six in 10 charities are struggling to recruit or retain suitably qualified candidates or volunteers.
The Centre for Charity Effectiveness, Bayes Business School is researching how this period of uncertainty will impact the future of charity leadership. They’re running roundtable discussions and in-depth interviews with sector leaders, the results of which will be published in a report in Spring/Summer 2024.
